Prior to my recruiting days I was a trade show promoter and ran events in NYC and NJ and PA.  I'd be happy to help in any capacity with this event.

Ok, so gather the info and put together a proposal. I'd love to see someone get better quotes than I did.
I mentioned NYC to Jesse Noller at Pycon last weekend and he said someone from Bloomberg.org had reached out to the planners of Pycon.  Although it could be pricey hotels in NY can be found for $150 a night (what it was at Santa Clara) and the teamsters were being used in Pycon this year.  So I am not sure it would be any more than Santa Clara.

Also I propose PyCNYC as the nickname.

Yes, the 2600 folks are very lucky to have a connection with someone in that hotel. I could not get near that price at all when I contacted them. Their use of the space all day and night, and the things they can do with that space are all really unique and amazing conference niceties. I am not connected to any hotel. if someone here is, and could get us such a deal, this would be a dream come true.
I know that HOPE does a conference at the Hotel Pennsylvania for 2000+ attendees for less than $100 per person.

The last time I checked into this, here is what I found:

- Running a 2000 person three day event in NYC will cost attendees somewhere between $600 and $1500 each, because of Teamster Union restrictions in all spaces where /coffee and tea/food service happens.
- Coffee/tea service alone averages $60 per person per day in large venues, also due to Teamsters Union restrictions.
- Guaranteeing several hundred occupied rooms in a large hotel, at $250 per night, is probably not going to happen: many attendees will be local, and those who aren't will stay in Queens/Secaucus NJ for half the price.

I have found tricks around this when organizing PyGotham, such as hosting on ships, or in small classroom space with no food service. But this model doesn't hold up for large groups. Someone connected to a college campus would have to get involved, to make it affordable for the average attendee.

Has any work been done to prepare a bid proposal to host PyCon 2016 in New York?
