Stay away from fluff!!!!! Plant smart seeds over and over again!!!! Surround yourself with people who create activity/ make things happen!!!! AND most important, back it up by doing a great job!!!!
For Example: If a SEO company tells you how great they are, ask them to show you where they come up in the rankings. Make sure they search their industry, not their name (of course they'll come up if searching their name) ... if you Google Long Island Networking or Long Island Internet Advertising - 516Ads/ 631Ads is #1 or 2 (depending on the day) ... we tell our clients even when you get to the top, don't make too much of a fuss about it, get back to work!!!! High search rankings are just one of multiple tools needed to ignite/ better your business!!!
Example #2: Stay away from Ad Takers. Just placing an ad at best is a gamble. Usually a losing one. Deal with ignitors of business, people who can think on their feet, make connections and work to build relationships over and over again. Also, stay away from marketing/ ad folks that tell you 'you HAVE to do this' or 'this is the GREATEST' ... when it comes to advertising/ marketing there's no such things as the greatest or the best ... it's a cumulative effort of smart tools/ planting smart seeds over and over again ... as far as HAVING to do ... you HAVE to do is bust your butt everyday, do a great job everyday, back up what you say everyday, deliver quality everyday ... if you don't do that, all the marketing/ advertising in the world can't help you!!!!
