NOCCA FACING BUDGET CUTS: PLEASE HELP TODAY!

THE ISSUE: Governor Jindal's budget recommendations this year include a devastating 20% cut to NOCCA's operations.

THE STATUS: It's not over yet! Representative Walt Leger sponsored an amendment to the Budget Bill restoring adequate operating funds to NOCCA. We want to keep this amendment intact! If it remains, NOCCA should not have to eliminate any of its programs, lay off staff, or deny admission to students due to decreased capacity.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Please take five minutes today to write your legislators and urge them to protect Louisiana's gifted students and the opportunities that NOCCA offers. When writing your legislators, here are four things we ask you to do:

1. Please thank them for their support of NOCCA. The vast majority of elected officials understand and appreciate NOCCA, and we consider them great friends.

2. Please ask them to protect NOCCA and the benefits it offers to the children of Louisiana. The budget bill, as amended, provides adequate support for the[masked] school year. We just want to make sure the bill stays as it is.

3. Please tell them your story about why NOCCA matters to you, to your family, and to the state of Louisiana.

4. Please copy [address removed]

Here is where you can find e-mail addresses for your elected officials:

If you're unsure, you can look up legislators by your street address:

Finally, here are some phone numbers, if you would like to call your legislators:

On behalf of the many talented students who attend NOCCA today, and the many more who will enroll in the record-breaking[masked] school year, we thank you for your help on this very important issue!

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT NOCCA

NOCCA is Louisiana's arts conservatory, providing nearly 1,000 middle and high school students from 23 parishes statewide with top-level arts-training.

NOCCA provides an outstanding return on the state's investment. This school year, a $5.9 million operating budget has already yielded over $8.5 million in college scholarships for NOCCA's 93 graduating seniors.

NOCCA received a record number of applications this year from students from across the state. Over 1,000 middle and high school students set their sights on NOCCA for the next school year.

NOCCA was the only educational institution in the entire state to take a midyear budget cut in[masked]. NOCCA had to eliminate four staff positions in that cut.
