Re: [DCPython] Meeting location

I think DC becomes a neutral ground. You know how VA and MD people feel about each other's states, and the traffic between them is often infinitely worse than into and out of DC. I live in Arlington, and while I don't make it to as many meetings as I'd like due to other commitments, when I go, it's a simple thing for me. If it were moved to Arlington, it'd be easy of course, but Tysons? Not even if you paid me in donuts. Bethesda? Now I have to hop Metro, change lines, get up there, and hope for fewer disasters on the red line.

I think DC is neutral space. I mean, it's not even a real state! :)

I also prefer being metro accessible, though (working here and potentially offering auxilliary python/dev meetup opportunities at my office here in Rosslyn (overlooking the national mall)) I tend to perceive Arlington as a perfectly acceptable part of the 'd.c. metro'

I like DC too, even though I'm outside the beltway. My experience at my meetup is that attendance stays pretty good as long as Metro access is  available.

Dear Python Programmers:

It's that time again *yawn*.  Yup, time to discuss… MEETING LOCATIONS! But before I get in to detail I'd like to pose a general question to the group:

  • Do folks, much the same as me, feel the "spirit" of DC Python (a MD 501c3) exists in the *heart* of DC?

I biased my question there, but what I"m really asking is: given a choice between DC proper (e.g. Dupont circle) or somewhere else on the metro (but not necessarily in DC) which do you prefer? I know I'd prefer DC, but I want to make sure everyone else does too before I tackle the next set of issues. Please let me know your preference, on or off list ([address removed]), so I may tally responses and proceed accordingly.
