Announcing a new Meetup for Conflict Solutions International (London) - the Meetup!

What: May Meetup

When: Wednesday, May 26,[masked]:00 PM

Where:
Pub George IV, Holborn
28, Portugal Street WC2A 2HF
London

Dear CSI members,

Join me to explore and discuss at our next meetup on 26th May 2010,

What works when counter-insurgency has run its course: in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and beyond?
Can violence be used to stop the tribal, ethnic and religious conflicts that have flared up in cities around the world?

The twenty-first century has seen millions unemployed. It has seen livelihoods undermined by environmental degradation. Middle-class cities in Europe, Asia, and Africa have become cauldrons of violence and resentment. Tribalism, ethnic nationalism, and religious fundamentalism have flared dangerously, from Russia to Spain. The use of force is unlikely to help.

This topic will be discussed at a lecture earlier that day, at 6.30pm at the LSE:

"The Ultimate Weapon is No Weapon: human security and the new rules of war and peace"
Date: Wednesday 26 May 2010
Time:[masked]pm
Venue: Old Theatre, Old Building

Speakers: Lieutenant Colonel Shannon D. Beebe, Professor Mary Kaldor, Clare Short MP, Rory Stewart
Chair: Professor David Held
This event is free and open to all with no ticket required. Entry is on a first come, first served basis. For more information, email [address removed]| or call[masked].

A panel of speakers explore an idea for stabilising the dangerous neighbourhoods of the world through the implementation of human security ideas. The event celebrates the publication of The Ultimate Weapon is No Weapon: Human Security and the New Rules of War and Peace written by Shannon D Beebe and Professor Mary Kaldor, published by Perseus Books.

I will attend the lecture before our meetup and will meet those who also want to go to the lecture at 6.20pm at the entrance of the Old Theatre , please call me if you can not find me,[masked].

All who cannot make the lecture, we will meet at

8pm
