Keyboard in VM still not working,
Checked the device manager, it took Microsoft standard drivers, but there is a yellow ! symbol near the keyboard,
In the description it shows
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19).
Tried to update the driver, but it shows driver is up to date after scanning the system.

appreciate your help to resolve the issue.

Thanks Roopesh for your feedback,
I tried VMWare converter as advised by Paul, and it worked.
But in the VM i could not use KB, mouse is working fine.
In the VirtualBox status it indicated the KB capture is ON.

Thanks again for your help and time guys...

Grub did not recognize the windows partition.

Try this

add an ubuntu desktop iso file in windows 8.1 virtual machine settings

  1. Right click on the VM you want to run the .iso in
  2. Click on 'Storage' (On Oracle VM virtualBox, Click on 'Settings' first to get to 'Storage')
  3. Under 'IDE Controller' There should be an icon that shows a CD with a + sign on it, to create a new disc drive
  4. A box will come up, click 'Choose Disk'
  5. Choose your ubuntu desktop .iso

change boot order to boot the live cd first

boot into ubuntu live,

follow this procedure

Hey Murali,

This means ur windows vm doesnt recognize hypervisor storage controller. You would have to start Ur VM from safe mode/recovery console and inject the driver. Or better if ur not bound to virtualbox just grab VMware converter, I have used it countless times for p2v or even p2v2p without any hassle.

Paul

Subject: [oes-emirates] Create VM from dual boot.

Hello guys Need help on below:

I have a dual boot laptop with windows 8.1 and ubuntu 14.04. Want to create a virtual machine of existing windows8.1 and use this VM in Ubuntu/ Virtualbox of the same physical machine. Created the Virtual machine VHD file of Windows8.1 using Disk2Vhd, by Microsoft. Created Virtual machine in Ubuntu by using Virtual box.

for this I referred https://bsmadhu.wordpress.com/2012/04/25/physical-machine-to-virtual-machinep2v-using-disk2vhd/#comment-460

But when I am starting VM on VirtualBox it gives following error message and not booting the windows 8

error: unknown file system
entering rescue mode

and giving the prompt
grub rescue>

Here I tried command from this video tip Boot into Windows 8/7/XP in Grub Rescue Mode.

but after entering the command insmode normal receiving the error unknown file system.

Detail of environment i am doing this exercise:

VirtualBox VM[masked]_Ubuntu r93012 linux.amd64
Ubuntu[masked] LTS , 64 bit
Windows 8.1 Pro

Thanks for your time.

Murali
