Greetings Fellow Meetup Members,

This Saturday, March 1st, we're celebrating our second year as owners of the Center. We're grateful to be the caretakers of this beautiful space. We continue to meet amazing people in the community, and we're inspired by the dedication of our teachers, students, and friends, who continue to support us by simply being present.

On Saturday, we're offering free yoga classes all morning, followed by an open house in the afternoon.  The afternoon celebration will include raffle prizes from local merchants, complementary Henna body art, crafting bookmarks with Julie Samson, free Mary Kay makeovers by Milagros, custom-made jewelry by Judy on sale, and Aimee will be offering complimentary Alchemy Bodywork. There will be lots of food, drinks, music and friends.

We have so many reasons to celebrate. Thank you for being a part of our growing community, and we look forward to seeing you this Saturday!

Namaste,

Maria & Mark Haswell

CLASS HIGHLIGHT
Qigong for Health with Bob Kipper
Every Wednesday, 11:45am - 1:00pm

Curious about the practice? Here are a few of Bob's thoughts and observations on Chinese Medicine, Qigong and Tai Chi.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is based on thousands of years of practical experience. The three main branches are Acupuncture / Acupressure, Herbal Medicine and Qigong.  These ancient healing arts take a holistic approach to solving chronic health challenges.  Good health, in the TCM vernacular, is maintained by keeping one's body energy in balance.  Illness is said to occur when this natural energy flow or "chi" is blocked, thus creating an imbalance.

Qigong, which translates to "energy work", promotes the flow of chi by engaging the mind with specific body postures / movements. Practicing Qigong creates an environment in which mind - body synergy is amplified.  By placing the mind in the body, communication pathways are broadened, chi meridians are opened and energy balance results naturally.  It is said that Qigong makes you strong from the inside out, like an iron bar wrapped in cotton.  After a Qigong class, it is not uncommon to feel energized rather than fatigued.  For this reason, many students refrain from practicing Qigong too late in the evening.

A common question that new students ask is what the difference between Tai Chi and Qigong is.  Tai Chi is simply a martial form of Qigong, where the prescribed postures or forms, in addition to medical benefit, have self-defense applications.  The emphasis should be on the health benefit, with the martial application providing a level of authenticity while supplying a useful tool in helping one to internalize the movement.

Come join Bob in exploring this wonderful art form!
