Re: Re[2]: [blacktechies] App to avoid black neighborhoods

I think the app would be useful if it captured objective crime statistics.

It would be great to find a way to keep away gentrification, while attracting economic investment that uplifted the residents.

I would support an app like that....overall though I would support an app that just gives objective crime stats based on the gps area I am currently located at. This app is a great idea... its the execution that has black folks and other "minorities" weary. It's the idea that subjective based observations can be used to label an area.

I could be walking down a street minding my own business deep in thought and cross paths with someone and not pay them any attention...for me that could be a non-event while the person whose path I crossed could have been on edge thinking I could be up to no good... they could write a "sketch report" about it and now a undeserving label is attached to an location.

But ironically lol as someone put it, this may help keep gentrification at bay in some areas.

First I would like to say I don't know much about the app, I just read the headline and made an assumption.

Giving the horrible hate crimes towards black folks in this country, would you support an app that lets other black folks know that a certain area committed a hate crime towards a fellow sister or brother?

Please clarify the premise of the app.  What functions does the app perform?

If we, black folks, created a similar app, would you support it?

Racist is extremely fundable.

To think someone thought this worth venture capital. Maybe one off us should build an app that tells us where we can go to avoid driving while black traffic stops and Klansman.

if it keeps the gentrification at bay I might report whole neighborhoods...

With firsthand experience living in Washington, D.C., where white terror is as ubiquitous as tucked-in polo shirts, grinning caucasians Allison McGuire and Daniel Herrington should be unstoppable in the field of smartphone race-baiting—they're already finalists in a $20,000 startup contest! But don't worry: they're not racist. It says so right on their blog, which asks people to share "sketchy" stories about strangers they spot:
