Good. I think you're on the right track.
However, as others have said, there are other market participants ahead of you. How will you be a better choice than they are? And when they match what you do, what will you do?

Hi Bill,

Good question. Both the order of the questions and their corresponding answer choices get scrambled. It adds a lot more diversity and change.

Eli,
Is it just the order of questions that is randomized?

More power to you, Eli, but as a college teacher, I'd be concerned about giving different versions of an exam. It doesn't seem fair. How can I guarantee that every version is equally challenging? Some questions are going to be easier, others harder, and if the versions are randomly generated, there's not a single standard, so what does any given grade mean at that point? I could see students really freaking out about this.

This sounds like a programmatic version of what my old college teachers used to do. They'd create what they called "variants", three or four different sets of exam questions, then they'd randomly assign seats for each student so the person with variant A would be sitting next to the person with variant B, sitting next to the person with variant C, and so on. This scheme usually fell apart when the students discovered that all the variant A people were in a straight line from the front of the classroom to the back... :)

Eli, in addition to what Bill said, which I think would be the largest constraint on your system, look into making a tablet-friendly version of your software. This looks like something tailor-made for an iPad/Nexus 10.

Good luck!

Eli,

I'm excited about education, and this sounds like a great service.  You asked for input.

A big challenge (imo) in this day and age of low pay and performance-based incentives for teachers and school principals, is that the temptation is too much for some teachers, and they will game the system to inflate their students' grades.  Any system that gives the teacher or administrator control over grading records is open to this kind of fraud.

If your service could include capability to detect and prevent that form of fraud, it would become a blockbuster.

Also, I would check market research on penetration of smart phones among teachers. If it looks promising, be sure to enable mobile access to this service.

Over the past few months my team and I have been developing a service that aims to eliminate cheating in the classroom, namely, on exams.

Teachers input their questions and answers online and can select how many versions they would like to generate. Our service with scramble the order of the questions and the order of the answers too. Each version will be completely unique so if there are 10, 20, 50, or even 500 students in the class, each one can have their own unique exam (depends on how many questions there are on the exam of course. You can't scramble 1 question 500 times and have each version different from the next). The next phase is evaluation. Each exam gets printed with an exam ID at the top of the page which corresponds to an answer key online. Teachers can easily access their answer keys for every exam and grade them accordingly.

If it would be okay, I would like to ask for your feedback and advice to see how I can get this product out there to the many educators who need this and then eventually, to entire universities.
