Steve, thanks for a great Meetup Group!  You may not hear that often enough.  I haven't looked at setting up a Wepay account. Is there any we can continue to use Paypal and pay the transaction charge in addition to the dues?  I hesitate to open up another account on line with hacksters working overtime!

Hey Sport Fans,

About a month ago, Corporate Meetup instituted a series of options for Organizers to consider regarding collecting membership dues. I did an initial review of these options and decided I didn't want to install these options; however, this evening Corporate Meetup has set up a series of accounting features that made it easier for the Lead Organizer to figure out how many have actually paid dues. I was stunned by the results: given how many members we have...less then 1% have paid dues. As a reminder, it costs a whooping $5 for each member every 6 months. Corporate Meetup charges me $75 every 6 months to maintain our website. That said, one of the new features I have adopted is that every member has a 14 day free trial membership. That said, I am not really sure if it is every member, or new members - I am thinking it is for new members; regardless,  I sent an email to Corporate Meetup for clarification. During that 14 day trial if a member decides they want to attend a Meetup; the site will notify them they need to pay their dues inorder to RSVP yes to that Meetup.

As mentioned this is one of a few features that Meetup has developed for Organizers. The feature I have adopted, only has one choice and that is to pay a year's worth of dues, which is $10. The old feature allowed for $5 every 6 months.

The other change is that with this new feature there is a new pay account. Currently we use PayPal for members to pay for the Meetups that charge a fee. This new feature is with WePay, an even newer pay feature adopted by Meetup. So, WePay will be used to pay for dues; and PayPal will still be used for paying for Meetups that charge a fee. This should be seamless to you as you either click to pay dues or for a Meetup. However, you will need to establish a WePay account.

Way too much information for tonight...item last, since I took over as Lead Organizer, I assumed the fees that PayPal charges for each of your transactions. That will change, and the Member will now pay for PayPal transaction fee charges.

Clear as Mud, eh.
