Secular Europe Campaign March & Rally Saturday 14th September 2013

Hello,

I am writing to you as you are a member of the Central London Humanists Meetup site.

This year the Central London Humanists are organising the 6th annual Secular Europe Campaign March & Rally. The march and rally have become an annual event to celebrate all we have achieved in Secularism, to demand more and to have a good time with like minded people.

We are marching to be seen, to be heard, to support others that are struggling to achieve their basic human rights and to show that we are a growing force that will stand up for what we believe in and will challenge what is unbelievable.

Secularism is about democracy and fairness.

In a secular democracy all citizens are equal before the law and parliament. No religious or political affiliation gives advantages or disadvantages and religious believers are citizens with the same rights and obligations as anyone else.

Secularism champions human rights above discriminatory religious demands. It upholds equality laws that protect women, LGBT people and minorities. These equality laws ensure that non-believers have the same rights as those who identify with a religious or philosophical belief.

The separation of religion and state is the foundation of secularism. Secularism is a framework for ensuring equality throughout society – in politics, education, the law and elsewhere, for believers and non-believers alike.

Sadly, last years march was not very well attended and some suggested that we should cancel the march this year, but what message does that give to those who do not have such democratic rights to free speech and protest as we do in Britain today?

I therefore urge you to come and join us on the SEC March & Rally this year to stand up for what I am sure you believe in and support others who do not have the rights that we so often take for granted in the UK.

We have some great Speakers at the rally including; Professor A C Grayling, Stephen Law, Maryam Namazie, Pragna Patel, Sue Cox, Anne Marie Waters, Bob Churchill, Adam Knowles, Nahla Mahmoud, Charlie Klendjian and Naomi Philips with others to be announced.

We also have successes to celebrate on the march with respect to gay and Humanist marriages in the UK.

There are 1324 members on our mailing list so if you all turn up that is a pretty good crowd already. Now I know not all of you can make it BUT if YOU invite 5 or 10 people to come to the march then those who cannot make it will be represented too. Please do not let me down and turn up to this important annual event.

Full details are on our Meetup site, please RSVP there as soon as you can, mention it on Facebook and twitter about it.

If you are free tomorrow 19th August we also have a fun social for creating slogans & chants for the march, see Meetup for full details, just add your suggestions to the comment section if you cannot make tomorrow. There are prizes for the best slogan and chants.

Warmest wishes,

Helen
