Theoretically, we should only need to hold off until https://letsencrypt.org/ gets up and running.

Cloudflare will do SSL termination for free, just put a self signed cert on the server so the back channel stays encrypted.

It would be even cheaper than DO, if you manage the website statically with Cactus and upload the resultant files to Amazon S3, and serve a website out of an S3 bucket. You could run the site for 10 cents a month.

Alex,
I know Heroku has a free platform, but haven't u tried using DigitalOcean, it might be cheaper (https://www.digitalocean.com/?refcode=a4c588c90cf4). I have a few sites hosted there as well as AWS and I'm not paying more than 10 dollars a month for a site usually.

Let me know if I can assist you in anything. Lovely would learn some Django since I haven't used it much. Just used Flask and some back end components.

Folks,

FYI: Our Heroku platform credits have run out so I've disabled SSL while we figure out what to do. I am also taking this opportunity to "clean house". The website seems to have fallen into a state of disrepair (broken Bootstrap theme, no recent updates, etc) so I've disabled most functionality while we figure out what to do with that issue too.

I think the Django site is really nice and I appreciate everyone's contributions. I also really appreciate receiving donations via Stripe. Unfortunately, we can't yet support ~$60/month for hosting so we'll either have to get more platform donations from Heroku (!) or perhaps move to Rackspace Cloud.

Anyway, one thing we can do immediately is upgrade to Django 1.8 (with 1.9 around the corner!) I've begun this process and as upgrades are my area of expertise, I'm willing to help anyone curious earn how to do it. The process, roughly, is:
