The Louisville Area Skeptics meetup is an opportunity for people from Louisville and the surrounding areas to share their love of science and their interest in critical thinking.

Scientific skepticism is not atheism, nor is it any religion or lack thereof. Skepticism is a tool to help people evaluate the world. Members of all faiths are welcome at our events.

A skeptic is an individual who prefers to evaluate claims based on verifiability and falsifiability, rather than popularity. Scientific skeptics value critical thinking skills and promote the scientific method. While skeptics do not immediately dismiss any claims, they do question claims lacking empirical evidence.

Our goal is to host monthly Science Cafes, with lively presentations from professional scientists, philosophers, researchers, and others who are passionate about the scientific outlook. We'll meet at a local pub for dinner and to chat before the presentation, and afterwards we have doorprizes!

We'll also host monthly Skeptics in the Pub, an informal social event designed to promote fellowship and social networking among skeptics, critical-thinkers, and anyone interested in science. It provides an opportunity to talk and share ideas in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. But most importantly, it's about having fun while promoting skepticism, science, and rationality.

Topics of discussion at a typical Louisville Area Skeptics meetup might include science, acupuncture, psychology, immunizations, superstitions, climate change, cryptozoology, paranormal phenomena, nutrition myths, archaeology, forensics, homeopathy, evolution, logic and logical fallacies, magic, chiropractic, astronomy, UFOs, optical illusions, media coverage of science, or pseudoscience.
