700, MYBELL, PCB Primer Class, Hardware Crowdfunding

Hi Makers!

Wow, MakeIt NYC is now 700 members strong! Thanks to all of your for your support and our steady growth! Getting to such a large membership is a reflection of the health of the Maker and hardware communities. And in such a healthy community, there's a ton of things going on - here's a few of them that you probably want to know about, in addition to our next great meeting on October 24.  (details below)

I'm really excited and honored that past sponsors MakeSimply have chosen me to teach a new class on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). Unlike the two classes that I've done previously, this one is for pure noobies that just want to have a practical knowledge of PCBs - what they are, how you get them made, what things cost. Why are they green? Why do they have all those holey things? I'll be covering what you need to know in an entertaining, quick-paced presentation.

So, if you’re going to work with PCBs yourself or to have someone else do the heavy lifting, this workshop will teach the essentials that you need to either get started, buy services, or manage someone doing it for you. Click here for more information and a $15 MakeIt discount.

More hardware: we're teaming up with New York Hardware Start-up once again for what should be a pretty amazing meeting focused on hardware crowdfunding, lead by Dragon Innovation. And thanks to our generous benefactors at eBay, it'll be another free meeting. Hardware, pizza and beer. How can you beat that?

Lastly, some new news about MakeIt NYC favorite MYBELL, the ultimate bike accessory. Fresh from winning an Editor's Choice Blue Ribbon, MakeIt member Peter Pottier and is project are contenders in a couple of contests - and they can use your help. First, they're in the running to be an Insert Coin Finalist, so hit that link and vote for MYBELL there. And they're also up for a Miller Lite Tap the Future award, so please show Peter and the team some love there, too.

Thanks everyone! Hope to see you all in October!
