We’re Back!

After three years in the Covid wilderness, we are finally meeting in-person again. On the 1st Sunday of each month (barring holidays) we will meet at our new location, the Huntington Arts Council gallery, beginning at 1 pm.

Our first in-person meeting will be: Sunday, February 5th, 2023 Huntington Arts Council Gallery 213 Main Street Huntington, NY

On the 3rd Sunday of each month, we‘ll meet at 1 pm on Zoom, as some of us have already been doing for the past two years.

Newcomers are welcome! Reading is not mandatory. In each meeting (both live and online), we’ll read excerpts from our work and receive verbal and written feedback from other members. The word limit is still 1800. All group feedback and reader comments should be about the actual writing of the piece, not its subject matter. In addition, the reader and group members should focus on the excerpt in front of them, rather than additional scenes and chapters not being read that day.

For in-person meetings, please bring enough hard copies of your work for others to read along with you and write comments. There will be a sign-in sheet at each meeting (arrive early to read early). All copies will be returned to readers. For our Zoom events, please use Word or a similar format so that you can share your screen with everyone.

After years of faithful and caring leadership, Varteny Koulian and Will Roe are stepping down from their Co-Organizer positions at Amateur Writers. We are very grateful to them for their expert steering of our ship of creative fools, otherwise known as writers. The group’s new Co-Organizers are Margaret Sargent and Allan Hunter. Both are long-term members of Amateur Writers.

As for Covid, yeah, it’s still around. This is one of the reasons we’re meeting on Zoom as well as in-person. Our new location has ample space for our group. Please feel free to wear a mask (or not) depending on New York State guidelines and your personal risk/comfort level. All decisions will be respected.
