Check out MongoDB, one of these new-fangled
schemaless databases that
deals with "documents" instead of rows. A document is basically a JSON
object, and you can easily do complex queries that deal with nested
collections.
MongoHQ is a hosted solution (minimal setup, just start using it):
http://mongohq.com/homeCouchDB is also similar, but I think that Mongo is more mature and
easier to use (with Couch you have to write these weird map/reduce
functions for all your queries, Mongo doesn't care.)
