Re: [Boulder-Mountain-Bikers] Why not have more rides?

I have to agree with Wendy.  I joined the group a long time ago but only rode with the group twice.  While I'm not a beginner I was kind of treated rudely by a couple riders as I was not considered to a "dedicated" rider because I don't look the part.  I don't have the latest bike or clothing or even a roof rack.  I would love to have all that but I choose not to get them because I love to travel(headed to moab in two weeks) and ride in other countries, spending money on all that equipment wouldn't allow me to do it.
I ride with a different group who oddly enough have a couple riders who used to be semi-pro but ride 5 year old bikes and clothes from used shops.  None of them care whether if your the fastest or have the latest equipment but they care if your having fun or not which in my opinion should be the only thing that matters.
I appologize if this offends some people but that's my two cents.

I just joined this meetup group and went out a week ago with you all on the Monday ride at Marshall Mesa - it was a nice group and a fun time. For me, my lack of participation to any one meetup group would be attributed to the fact that I enjoy SOOOOO many activities. I climb 2-3 times a week at the gym / outside (I set those up through a meetup group), then I have other obligations such as my volunteering with kids, and then there's mountain biking maybe once a week and road biking / commuting to/from work the rest-- for me, it's more a lack of time to do everything. I think the groups in this area offer so much and it's hard to find time for them all when you enjoy EVERYTHING!

I would gladly organize some biking meetups - but they might not be regular or frequent due to my climbing, traveling, volunteering, and other activities.

I'd consider myself a pretty intermediate / advanced rider (fear doesn't stop me) and when riding, I prefer to ride with people in my ability group, but I am also willing to help newbies as well.

Hi, well I can say that for me, I just recently discovered "meetups" and I thought as a total novice mountain biker this group might be able to help me learn the area and learn some basics too.  When I inquired about the Monday night rides as being a novice - I was discouraged from coming, so I have not come.  As a beginner - I am looking for a friendly supportive group to 'show me the ropes' a bit, and was about to cancel this meetup actually since it has had nothing to offer me up to now.     That is my two cents.

Dear All,

Am I the only one wondering how a mountain bike meetup with nearly 500 members has such a small number of actual meetups? Modulo the heroic effort of Dave, lets face it, there is just about nothing going on here. Seems to me that most of the original organizers have vanished. Yes, there are other mountain bike meetups and many are significantly more active.  However, many are a bit too far away. A Boulder mountain biker meetup would seem to make sense. Given that you all have signed up suggest that there is interest in mountain biking principally but somehow this is just not working out. So far, the ride I organized attracting the most people here was the Nivot Ridge one, but this is not something that can be done regularly.

What kind of rides would you all like to do? Is there interest in more advanced rides (e.g., Hall), more exploratory rides (e.g., Sourdough network)... should we do a poll?

Please share your thoughts.

best,  Alex
