I visited Montreal and Quebec City in 2009. As in most of Europe, the role of faith in public life is mainly symbolic and ceremonial. Societies steeped in very old traditions still cling to them, but only because "it's tradition!" Just like that song from Fiddler on the Roof. Churches still give people a place for weddings and funerals.
