- Ridglan, a medical testing beagle breeding facility, has shut down and all 2000 of its beagles are being adopted as a direct result of animal rights activism.
- NYC has just banned horse drawn carriages after a 45 year campaign
- Due, almost entirely to animal activism, the fur industry is greatly weakened and may not survive at all much longer - down 85 percent in 10 years
- Oregon came close to adding a ballot initiative to ban all exemptions to animal cruelty laws, making hunting, fishing and raising and slaughtering animals for food illegal throughout the state.

Please join us for a Compassionate Lunch & Learn featuring Jerry Parisella, author of Stop Eating the Animals co-hosted by the Animal Sanctuary Network and the Veg Society of DC (VSDC)

Jerry will share ideas and research from his book, exploring how our food choices connect with the well-being of animals, people, and the planet. Enjoy lunch, ask questions, and connect with others in a welcoming, relaxed setting.

We’ll also celebrate Kizuna’s unveiling of its vegan menu, a delicious opportunity to discover what this Tysons restaurant has to offer. Whether you’re already vegan or simply curious, you’re welcome to join us!

Lunch is $35 per person (all-in), including:

Please join us for a special combined event - our fun and friendly monthly VSDC Vegan Potluck AND a board games gathering - twice the fun!! The potluck will start at 12 pm and go until 2 pm (approx) and the board games part will go from 2 to 4 pm. You can attend either or both. There is no charge to attend this event; you will be expected to bring vegan food or drink to share for the potluck or vegan snacks for the board games part. The location is in downtown Silver Spring MD, at the DC border.

**When you RSVP, please indicate if you are attending the potluck or the board games gathering, or both.**

Items to bring to the potluck:
- Vegan potluck dish (no animal products of any kind) to share. For food quantity, please bring 4 to 6 times the number of servings times the number in your party.
- A serving utensil for your dish
- Ingredients list or recipe for your dish - Please print or write it out in advance
- Beverage for yourself or one to share
- To help reduce waste, bring your reusable plate, cup, and utensils
[VSDC will provide drinking water.]

Please Note:
- Be sure to help leave the space clean before leaving the potluck and take the containers and utensils you brought with you.
- Vegans do not consume any animal products or byproducts (no meat, chicken/poultry, fish/sea animals, eggs, milk or dairy products, honey, etc).

Eastern Village Cohousing, 7981 Eastern Ave NW, Silver Spring MD 20910.
Enter into the front door and walk into the Community Room.

PARKING
Yes, there should be free street parking on Sundays in this residential neighborhood. Also there is free parking in the parking garage adjacent to 7981 Eastern Ave. Please read and follow all parking signs.

METRO
This location is accessible by public transport. It is 0.6 miles from the Silver Spring Metro station on the Red line.

Please plan your trip in advance and ask any questions at least one day in advance. The organizers will do their best to answer questions but ones on the day of the event will be difficult for responses.

Come out to converse with fellow veg and veg-curious LGBTQ+ folks at the queer space called "As You Are." As You Are serves coffee as well as alcoholic beverages and has a few vegan items on their menu. There is always a great vibe at As You Are and there are games and other activities available that we can do as a group, if people are interested in that.

When: Thursday, November 19 from 6:30 pm until 9:00 pm

Where: As You Are cafe and bar (500 8th St. SE)

Transportation: As You Are is very close to the Eastern Market metro stop on the Blue/Orange/Silver lines.

Cost: Free but please support As You Are with at least a beverage purchase.

About the Group
Unless noted otherwise, VSDC's LGBTQ+ events are intended for queer/questioning folks who self-identify as LGBTQ+. The events are meant to serve as a safe space to share community with other self-identified queer or questioning LGBTQ+ vegan or vegan-curious people. However, we appreciate our allies and we plan to host "LGBTQ+ & ALLIES" events approximately quarterly - to welcome non-queer allies into our events in order to share community with our fellow vegans/veg curious VSDC participants. If the event is an "& ALLIES" event, it will be clearly identified as such in the name of the event. Any person who participates in an "& ALLIES" event must be supportive of LGBTQ+ persons, their lifestyle, and their gender expression; unsupportive or combative individuals will be removed from events and banned from future VSDC LGBTQ+ events. Please note that any and all questions related to gender/LGBTQ+ issues that may arise during either LGBTQ+ or LGBTQ+ & ALLIES events must be posed ONLY to event host, Susan, and not be asked of any other meetup participants in order to respect their privacy and promote their personal safety.
