What we're about

This Meetup group is run by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC), 7/19/22.

The Veg Society of DC hosts the events and pays the Meetup fee. You do not have to be a member of VSDC to participate in our events, but we encourage you to join. All of our events are vegan and we have a lot of fun! Membership enables you to enjoy members-only benefits like receiving discounts from our GreenRewards participating partners.

VSDC is a completely volunteer-run organization, with no paid staff. and is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.

Founded in 1927, the Veg Society of the District of Columbia (VSDC) is the nation’s oldest continuously operating 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization promoting an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle through education, community-building, and social activities throughout the DC metro area.

VSDC believes in treating all people, animals, and the planet with respect and kindness. We are committed to creating a more compassionate and caring world.

We do this by creating a community of like-minded people who are on the path to an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on this path, we offer resources and fellowship to support you. We make your journey easier, more enjoyable and meaningful.

VSDC. Creating communities for your health, the animals, and the planet.

VSDC Book Club discusses "Caste" by Isabel Wilkerson (online)

Link visible for attendees

Please join the Veg Society of DC Book Club discussion of Isabel Wilkerson's Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.

Wilkerson examines the unspoken caste system -- a rigid hierarchy of human rankings -- that has shaped America. Linking the caste systems of America, India, and Nazi Germany, she explores eight pillars that underlie caste systems across civilizations.

To participate you must read at least half the book—and RSVP at least two days before the meeting.

The VSDC Book Club began meeting online in March 2020 (previously we met in vegetarian restaurants in DC or nearby Maryland or Virginia). People who RSVP yes will get the details to join the discussion (the weekend before the meeting). The details will not be posted on meetup.

We read fiction and nonfiction in alternating months, about any topic. For more information (including everything we have read over 30 years!) visit: https://vsdc.org/Book-Club
Or contact Beth through meet up: http://www.meetup.com/vegan-28/message/?recipientId=1642817

Virtual Game Night: Gartic Phone

Link visible for attendees

Join us for a VSDC remote game night featuring Gartic Phone. Gartic Phone is a hilarious mashup of Pictionary and Telephone where each player begins by writing a quirky sentence, is then asked to draw what others wrote and finally describe the kooky drawings they see.

Note: the game room will be locked 10 minutes after the start of the event, so please be on time.

Don’t worry if you’ve never played Gartic Phone before - or even know how to draw! All are welcome and we'll go over the basic rules at the start of the event. If you want to preview the game beforehand please visit: https://garticphone.com/

By signing up for this event you are agreeing to abide by our harassment policy https://vsdc.org/policies/

Don't be a no show! If your plans change, update your RSVP so that another may attend.

VSDC Children’s Meet Up: Spring Picnic

Picnic Grove #7

The next meeting of VSDC's Children's meetup will be at Rock Creek Park for a picnic!

After a winter hiatus, we will gather at Picnic Grove #7 in Rock Creek Park to have a vegan picnic and celebrate the arrival of spring. You can either bring a vegan meal for your family or bring vegan food to share! There will be limited picnic table space, so please bring a blanket or camp chair. We will also have balls and a few other games - feel free to bring any lawn games to play with friends!

There is a parking lot at Picnic Grove #7 - if you need a ride, please post in the comments and someone may be able to carpool. There are no bathrooms at the picnic grove, but there are bathrooms you will pass about a half mile before arrive at Grove #7.
