About us

This Meetup group is run by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC).

The Veg Society of DC hosts the events and pays the Meetup fee. You do not have to be a member of VSDC to participate in our events, but we encourage you to join. All of our events are vegan and we have a lot of fun! Membership enables you to enjoy members-only benefits like receiving discounts from our GreenRewards participating partners.

VSDC is a completely volunteer-run organization, with no paid staff. and is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.

Founded in 1927, the Veg Society of the District of Columbia (VSDC) is the nation’s oldest continuously operating 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization promoting an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle through education, community-building, and social activities throughout the DC metro area.

VSDC believes in treating all people, animals, and the planet with respect and kindness. We are committed to creating a more compassionate and caring world.

We do this by creating a community of like-minded people who are on the path to an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on this path, we offer resources and fellowship to support you. We make your journey easier, more enjoyable and meaningful.

VSDC. Creating communities for your health, the animals, and the planet.

Please join the Veg Society of DC Animal Rights Discussion and Education Group for another great discussion.

Announcing our next topic series: Cultivated Meat: What it is, ethical questions, and whether it can create change for animals! Our first session will be on Zoom and materials will be shared with those who have RSVP’d as soon as they are finalized, but at least a week before the event.

What is the Animal Rights Discussion and Education Group?
If you’ve been looking for a way to educate yourself on animal rights and issues affecting animals in our world today with the support of a like-minded community, then this group is for you. The VSDC Animal Rights Discussion and Education Group will discuss thoughts, questions, concerns, and news related to animal rights. It seeks to provide a safe space for discussions around issues affecting captive animals, farmed animals, animals used in research, wild animals, companion animals, and more.

All are welcome, from those well-versed in animal rights philosophy and issues to those who are just starting off on their journey and are curious to learn more. Please come with an open mind, an open heart, and a willingness to engage with diverse opinions with curiosity and respect.

The plan is for the group to meet every month, alternating between Zoom and in person. The topic of each meeting and any accompanying materials will be planned in advance and posted in event announcements via this VSDC meetup group. Participants are encouraged to offer topic ideas and materials for discussion at subsequent meetings.

    Date / Time: Saturday, May 9, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Location: Zoom/Online (will provide link closer to the date)

    Email 'ARdiscuss@vsdc.org' for further information.

  • VSDC LGBTQ+ Collaging, Creating, and Community (2.0)

VSDC LGBTQ+ Collaging, Creating, and Community (2.0)

Southwest Neighborhood Library, 900 Wesley Place Southwest, Washington, DC, US

Back by poplar demand! You are invited to join the Veg Society of DC (VSDC) and your fellow LGBTQ+ vegan and veg-curious folks at another event where we'll share in community while making collages or otherwise being creative.

We'll be meeting at Southwest Neighborhood Library (900 Wesley Pl SW, Washington, DC.) in the Large Meeting Room on May 9 from 2:30-4:30pm.

The host will bring some magazines, glue, paper, and scissors. There will also be some colored pencils and activity books available as well. Feel free to also bring your own crafting supplies if you'd like, as long as they don't make a mess (no permanent markers, paint, etc.)

The host will provide a few vegan snacks as well, but please bring your own water. (The library has strict rules on what refreshments are allowed in the meeting room and they must be pre-approved, so please don't bring in additional food or drink items.)

This event is indoors so it will proceed even if it's raining.

    Transportation
The library is just a short walk from Waterfront Metro Station on the Green line. There is limited parking in a lot at the library as well as street parking.

WHEN: Saturday May 9, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

    About the Group
Unless noted otherwise, VSDC's LGBTQ+ events are intended for queer/questioning folks who self-identify as LGBTQ+. The events are meant to serve as a safe space to share community with other self-identified queer or questioning LGBTQ+ vegan or vegan-curious people. However, we appreciate our allies and we plan to host "LGBTQ+ & ALLIES" events approximately quarterly - to welcome non-queer allies into our events in order to share community with our fellow vegans/veg curious VSDC participants. If the event is an "& ALLIES" event, it will be clearly identified as such in the name of the event. Any person who participates in an "& ALLIES" event must be supportive of LGBTQ+ persons, their lifestyle, and their gender expression; unsupportive or combative individuals will be removed from events and banned from future VSDC LGBTQ+ events. Please note that any and all questions related to gender/LGBTQ+ issues that may arise during either LGBTQ+ or LGBTQ+ & ALLIES events must be posed ONLY to event host, Susan, and not be asked of any other meetup participants in order to respect their privacy and promote their personal safety.

    Update Your RSVP
Please change your RSVP if you can no longer make it.
