Re: [atheists-767] meetings

Hey, this is adam. I just joined up & am looking to meet new people for stimulating conversation as well as listen to interesting speakers. Most conversation these days is so droll & tiresome.
Re: meeting locstions i live in mid city & work in metairie. Im pretty much available to go anywhere but, for what its worth,i would suggest mixing it up a bit to also include locales in metairie as well as mid-city, a great compromise for urbanites & suburbanites alike since its centrally and easily gotten to from
Both metairie as well as uptown/downtown/warehouse/coliseumsq. mid city 10 mins from anywhere.
As a suggestion for potential social gatherings, bayou beer garden is great meeting place. Cheap drinks, good food, huge deck out back w big tables and comfy & centrally located

Hello Heidi, this is Beth; I'm a NOSHA board member.  Could you give me some more explanation on why you are unable to attend a meeting in New Orleans?  Is it about the time it takes, or public transportation between parishes, or something else...?  And what kind events would you likely attend if they were in Metairie?

The regular monthly meeting location is unlikely to change soon -- we have those meetings at the Dominion Learning Center at the zoo because we've been able to negotiate an affordable standing agreement for that auditorium space with a room next door for after-meeting socializing. Our meeting space does have to be able to seat about 50 people, have adequate parking, and have lecture amenities like a microphone, lectern, display screen, etc.

We typically have 2 dinner/happy hours and one brunch each month; we could potentially schedule one of those in metairie on occasion if there's adequate interest. Those are just informal socializing events (no formal presentation or anything); is that a sort of thing you'd want to attend?

Some events, like the solstice party, are at someone's home, so the willingness to host determines location.  But this is why I'm asking for more specifics on your impediment -- that party was up by city park, and shouldn't be inconvenient at all to reach from Metairie if you have a car. But if you rely on public transportation, then crossing from one parish to the next does add an extra layer of difficulty.

So, please give us a little more detail, and our board can discuss what we might be able to do to increase accessibility.
Thanks!
~Beth

I sure wish there would be meetings/get togethers in Metairie. That is why I have not been able to attend any meetings.
