Re: [painter-84] Tee shirt

Why can’t we say what we need to say… people are really obnoxious out there.  I think the lines are to the point, not unfriendly…perhaps it should say in a pleasant way, watch and learn.  Or when I take a break lets chat.  I am fine wiht talking when I break..but people come right up…can I look?  what are you painting? and yup, my aunt an artist... etc. etc.  sure there could be a sale somewhere in there but there has to be a way to create respect for an artist at work….

I agree, it's funny bit definitely not friendly. I'd at least omit the aunt part.

Steven Simpson, I agree with you. I first saw that t-shirt in a different context.  It was a funny cartoon, but in reality,  rather un-welcoming in the field. A highlight of last summer was entertaining busloads of Chinese visitors as I painted, letting kids help a little painting the sky, etc.
Perhaps we could have two versions--one for the people--or the days--you'd welcome a chat, and another for the reclusive days or types.

I frequently turn to someone who is standing quietly behind me and say, "Hi, do you have any questions?" or "What do you think?" Sometimes I just start talking about the piece of the painting I am working on at that instant.
