Happy April!

Last month Ian Johnson gave us a guided tour of the d3 ecosystem.

This month, Roger Fischer will talk about data mapping.

Anyone doing map-based data visualizations with d3 has encountered at least one of the following problems: finding shapefiles, understanding area units, changes in shape or denomination, struggling with projections, map formats. Once you've solved those, you still need to get your data to fit the map.
And only then you can start with your data visualization work.

Roger will talk about common map and data problems he & his team have encountered, and how they overcame them.

We'll also examine a choropleth map.

Participate & Learn

You will be able to download the data visualization files and we encourage you to come with the following preinstalled:

• an editor like Sublime Text ( https://www.sublimetext.com/ )

• a recent version of Firefox, Chrome or Safari

• a local server like http-server ( https://www.npmjs.com/package/http-server ).
