Über uns

This meetup is focused on the Future of Data and the open community data projects governed by the Apache Software Foundation. Geared towards developers, data scientists and ALL Data enthusiasts who are building modern data applications. Our meetups cover all data -- data-in-motion and data-at-rest.  Meetups provide an opportunity to listen, share and work hands on with other technologists in the open source and open community Apache tools.

    Sessions
Beyond Tables: Bringing Open Semantics to Apache Polaris Yufei Gu, Snowflake
Business concepts like revenue, customers, and products are often defined differently across analytics and AI tools, leading to inconsistent results and fragmented business context.
This talk introduces Apache Ossie (incubating) and open semantic models, and explores how Ossie integrates with Apache Polaris™ to manage semantic models alongside tables and views. Using a practical ecommerce example, we will trace the question “What was our revenue by product category last quarter?” from physical tables to shared business definitions, and show how semantic models can be stored and retrieved through Polaris for use across analytics tools and AI agents.
Dynamic Storage Configuration Overrides in Apache Polaris™ Srinivas Rishindra Pothireddi, Cloudera
Apache Polaris currently manages storage configurations and credential boundaries at the root catalog level, requiring all nested namespaces and tables to share identical location and access settings. While this model provides straightforward catalog-wide governance, complex enterprise lakehouses frequently need to support distinct storage locations and access parameters across different namespaces and tables under a single catalog hierarchy.
This session explores a design proposal to extend Polaris with support for dynamic, path-level storage overrides at the namespace and table levels using a leaf-wins hierarchical resolution model. By evaluating named storage configurations through entity properties (polaris.storage.name), Polaris can dynamically resolve active storage targets and credential parameters at runtime—allowing a single catalog hierarchy to manage multiple distinct storage configurations without altering core catalog abstractions.
In this proposal walkthrough, we will cover:

    • Entity-Level Storage Binding: Extending entity property frameworks to dynamically map namespaces and tables to distinct storage definitions below the catalog root.
    • Hierarchical Overrides: How a leaf-wins resolution model evaluates entity paths (table $\rightarrow$ namespace $\rightarrow$ catalog) to resolve active storage settings.
    • Multi-Storage Catalogs: How supporting distinct storage configurations per namespace or table enables flexible storage targeting and isolation within a single catalog hierarchy.
