For our July meetup, we are extremely fortunate to have Colt McAnlis, from Google, come and share his wisdom on Android app network optimizations through effective data compression.

The two immutable laws of networking performance are simple:

  1. Spend less time doing network requests
  2. Reduce the size of the requests that you do make.

While the first one is often the topic for most water-cooler and code-checkin debates, the second one can often be the most valuable to focus on. In this talk, Colt McAnlis will introduce some key topics and algorithms for data compression, and tackle specific data items, compressors, and techniques to help your android apps send, and store smaller amounts of data. Your users will thank you!
