With the federal elections coming in October, we partnered with Open Data Ottawa and Open Toronto to bring together a book club focused on Election data.

In preparation of our September book club, we invite you to a work session at La Gare. The (O)DBC will be held during the Semaine Quebecoise de l'Informatique Libre (http://wiki.facil.qc.ca/view/Comit%C3%A9_FACIL_M%C3%A9dias/SQIL2015/Activit%C3%A9s_en_pr%C3%A9paration) (week of the 21st, official date to be announced soon). Don't hesitate to get in touch if you are interested in giving a presentation related to the Federal Elections.

The goal of this evening is to explore the datasets available (link below), find teammates, brainstorm about projects ideas and start working on these projects. Don't forget to bring your laptop.

Recommended data sources:

Project Ideas:

  • Identify voting patterns (link between demographics data and votes) between FED.
  • Find similar districts across Canada
  • Map voting data
  • Explore the political financing data (is there any difference in the donation between parties, what is the profile of donors, ...)

List of datasets and sources (https://hackpad.com/ODCB-4-Federal-Election-4nt6gWD9fW6): This is a collaborative document, feel free to add to this list and post a link of your project (even if it is a work in progress).

For online collaboration, join our #odbc channel on Slack. Email slack@mtldata.com to join MTL Data's slack.
