Speaking of subscription boxes:

Kickstarter: "Little Ms. Crate"

Fun monthly crate subscription that introduces 5-10 year old girls to careers and women role models in STEM and leadership fields!

Everytime I see a new subscription model launch I cant help but think……why if the RCA Records company was released today they’d be worth a Billion dollars based on how many subscribes they signed up with those 1c record teaser rates J

Cheers,
Dean

Yeah, with our tea subscription we don't have much margins-- right from farmers in Asia, and the curation process is done programmatically in conjunction with the box assembly. So, we can give out the tea without the markup prices.

We are doing a free tea for a year contest: http://blog.rosalitea.com/giveaways/win-a-year-of-artisanal-tea/, it would be fun if someone from this group were to win.

I think it's part-fad.  The idea is good, especially as a gift, but I think there's a limit to how much can be done and a lot of the subscription box providers are going to fail.

The idea is solid; fruit-of-the-month has been around forever.  Just don't expect to go catastrophic, and get the math right (i.e. make sure you can be profitable at a low volume)

I'm a growth strategist who is helping to launch a monthly Tea Box service on Product Hunt. You can read more about that here-- https://www.producthunt.com/tech/rosali-tea. Of course, I'd love to listen to any ideas you might be able to share about spreading the word about the tea service.

But what I'm REALLY interested in talking to this group about is the growing trend of monthly subscription boxes. What interesting unit economics! That is, if the retention really is what it's cracked up to be. What do you think-- are subscription boxes really the next big thing?

Who here has a monthly subscription box? How did you decide to subscribe? What are your expectations? What trends do you see with subscription boxes? Is it a fad or is it here to stay.

Personally, I think that they are extremely viable as a “Niche” service that can grow passionate, hyper-targeted evangelists. But will a subscription service ever be a unicorn? Hmm….

Hi Moshe,

Always room for more (eg http://www.crowdmapped.com/15-top-real-estate-crowdfunding-sites-watch-in-2015/)  but thought you might want to check out some of the Australia startups playing in the space already (Australians are crazy when it comes to property investing so make sense there is a lot in the is space there even though a relatively small market).
