MANHATTAN SHORT WRAP-UP:

  • Thanks to everyone who came out to this year's event! A lot of fantastic short films, some terrific conversation and a really fun time together!
  • FRIDAY, the film about a young man plotting revenge after a terrorist bombing in London and THE PALE OF SETTLEMENT, about a10-year old boy during the time of the Crimean War were both powerful and moving and landed near the top of nearly every list.
  • At the other end of the spectrum, KIZMET DINER presented the heartwarming short about a singing waitress and her seemingly disinterested customer and DO I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING was the laugh-out-loud funny comedy about one particularly chaotic morning for a family.  Along with Friday and The Pale of Settlemet, these were two of the most-frequent ballot winners from our group.
  • The short film I AM A GREAT BIG BALL OF SADNESS was a big hit with many -- but one that didn't rank high with me initially.  But, as is often the case, after talking with others and allowing it to sit and marinate at bit, this short film has become the probably the most meaningful and memorable.
  • Short films like #30, BLACK METAL, and NO COMMENT benefited from especially strong performances by people and the documentary IRISH FOLK FURNITURE benefited from strong performances from furniture!
  • In all, an especially strong group of short films this year!  The winner will be announced on the Manhattan Short website at 10pm on Sunday, October 6th and will be included in our next weekly update!
  • Thanks again for being part of this event!  As always, the best part of the night was getting together with CMG friends!

Take care,

Dan
