Hi Kathy, Annette, Jennifer, Paul, Little Joe, and All… :-)
First, Kathy, you asked why health topics were being discussed in a meetup discussion group. That’s certainly a valid question, and I think the answer is twofold.
First, it has to do with the history of this group being a place where people openly discuss diet and health issues with their friends in the community — because that’s what friends in a community do! You old-timers correct me if I’m wrong, but the many
gatherings and discussions led to a community connection that naturally included many of the issues and questions that someone who is vegan and interested in health and a raw food diet were likely going to confront.
Second, and more recently, it has to do with the fact that HealthyPlanet, (the nonprofit group behind the name), teaches about the impacts of our food and lifestyle choices on our bodies and the world— enabling people to make food and lifestyle choices
that create the outcome in their bodies and on the planet that they want. It’s a very “whole”istic approach, and message that is not limited to ethical veganism. Going vegan is at the core of our message, and it’s certainly the most impactful action one can
take if concerned about not killing/using animals, or cleaning up the environment, feeding the world’s hungry, not squandering resources, etc. On top of that, however, we teach about green living of all kinds, and healthy living in general. Let’s not kill
animals, and let’s not kill ourselves and our planet with other actions that also make a difference — like spraying our homes/ lawns with pesticides, or driving a Hummer for fun, or eating a junk food diet.
So it’s all fair game on this board, and there are plenty of great minds here that can create a lively discussion.
In terms of some of the controversial topics like vaccinations and genetically modified foods, there are good people on both sides of those issues. There are people with integrity and who I trust, on both sides of the issue. I did a radio show on the measles
vaccine controversy last year. I’ve attached a link to that for this board. The relevant part is about 30 minutes (at the beginning of the show) and is not a reciting of facts but more of my perspective on the debate --- sparked by seeing the mob with pitchforks
that was calling for parents who didn’t vaccinate to go to jail. Yes, that was/is being said.

So far, I have opted not to get a flu shot myself. (I’m generally not in contact with people whose health is especially vulnerable.) But I have considered it, for the reasons given in the linked-to post.
In any case, I'm glad to know that egg-free technology is now being used.

Hello,I never heard of snopes so i am not familiar with it. I am familiar with the work of Wakefield first hand. I saw the films of the guts of children with ASD. There are measles components actually found in guts of these children that are consistent with the measles virus found in the vaccine. Some develop lymponodular hyperplasia and others develop inflammation causing severe pain. My son was scoped by his associate. Again, because I am not familiar with snopes and do not know how they came to this conclusion I would still recommend this film.
