5th Annual National Ride of Silence

For the fifth year in a row, Medford will be hosting the 2017 National Ride of Silence on May 17th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, which begins and ends at Freedom Park in Medford, NJ. The Ride of Silence is part of a national bike ride, which is in honor of those cyclists who have been injured or killed while riding on public roadways. The ride is also used to promote bicycle safety and awareness of sharing the road.

This year, the Medford branch of the ride will be approx. 7 miles at a slow and silent pace of 12 miles per hour through beautiful farmlands, neighborhoods, and downtown of Medford. It will begin and end at Freedom Park in Medford, NJ. The roads will be temporarily closed for the ride, and we will receive an escort from the Medford Township Police.

Why we ride: The Ride of Silence will traverse and unite the globe as nothing before it. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although, cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring publics often isn’t aware of these rights, and sometimes are not aware of the cyclists themselves.

What to Bring: Participants are required to have a safe working bicycle and helmet. Front and rear bicycle lights are suggested. Following the rules of the road is a must.

Our Ride Information: There will be volunteers and support crews to pick up and to keep the ride moving along.

Previously, there was a turnout of 200+ and hope to have 400+ participants this year. The route is a 7 mile ride through the farmlands, neighborhoods, and downtown of Medford the procession will pass the sight of an accident, where we will display a white bike. This will require a crossing of Rt. 70 at both Main St and Eayrestown Rd.
