The hunt for exoplanets: Using machine learning to find true planets amidst the noise
SPEAKER: Dr. David Armstrong
TOPICS:
__ Exoplanets, what they are, how we find them, and why it matters
__ Challenges in identifying real planets in a sea of false positive mimics
__ Overview of our probabilistic machine learning approaches to solve the problem
__ Comparison to field-standard physical modelling approaches
__ Potential and implications for active and future datasets
SPEAKERS:
David is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick. His research focuses on exoplanet discovery and characterisation, encompassing planetary population statistics, habitability, and stellar variability.

__ DATA SCIENCE DARMSTADT:
Our community of Data Analysts and Scientists, Machine Learners, Data Storytellers, Statisticians and Mathematicians is meeting once a month for a talk and intensive discussion centered around Data Science, both from an academic and an application point of view.
Currently these meetings are taking place online. This is a chance for people living outside the Rhein-Main-Region to participate in our exciting explorations.
