HOOK: The Lazy Approach to Data Warehousing with Andrew Foad (English)

Details

We’re happy to welcome Australia-based data expert Andrew Foad, the father of the HOOK approach to data warehousing.

Abstract:

Data Warehousing projects fail with alarming regularity. Depending on which source you quote and how you measure success, 70–80% of data warehouse projects do not deliver the benefits promised to the business. Even Data Vault projects executed by smart, trained people fail more often than we care to admit. Why is this?

There is a disconnect between the way the business and IT view data. The way data is stored and managed within operational systems rarely aligns with the business concepts end-users talk about in their day-to-day jobs. Both views are valid, so how do we reconcile them?

This presentation will introduce you to “HOOK”, a new(ish) approach to Data Warehousing that bridges the gap between business and IT views of the world in a truly agile way.

Speaker:

With over 30 years in the industry (the last 10 in BI and Analytics), Andrew Foad is a veteran data practitioner. Through an ever-changing technology landscape, he has placed the science, art and black magic of data modelling at the centre of everything he has ever worked on. His brainchild HOOK is an alternative approach to data warehousing, which he freely admits has been created by “standing on the shoulders of giants”, for which he is genuinely sorry (and grateful).
