Über uns

Unsere Meeting Gruppe dient den Teilnehmern als Plattform um ihre PostgresSQL Kenntnisse zu erweitern.

Anhand von Vorführungen/ Präsentationen und Diskussionen über aktuelle PostgreSQL Themen möchten wir die Möglichkeit bieten, sich auf den neuesten Stand zu bringen. Führende Experten begleiten unser Meetup und geben exklusive Einblicke in die Entwicklungen von PostgreSQL runden das Ganze ab.

Während unserer Treffen besprechen wir spannende Themen, bei denen sich die Teilnehmer über einen erfolgreichen Einsatz von PostgreSQL informieren können. Nebenbei bietet sich die perfekte Möglichkeit zum Socializing: Mit anderen PostgreSQL-Nutzern und Experten bietet sich die Möglichkeit zum Austausch und Kennenlernen.

Wir suchen immer nach neuen Gesichtern als Sprecher:innen. Schreibt uns also gerne, wenn ihr bei unserem nächsten Event als Sprecher:in dabei sein möchtet.

Running PostgreSQL with Podman, Quadlet & Systemd
Quadlet provides a modern and declarative way to manage Podman containers as systemd services, making it ideal for running PostgreSQL containers either standalone or as part of an application stack. While Podman has long supported systemd integration, this approach is now deprecated in favor of Quadlet.
This talk discovers Quadlet's flexible and powerful is-offering with its systemd-native integration for PostgreSQL. The official PostgreSQL container image from Docker Hub ist used to explore how to set up PostgreSQL using Quadlet, manage its lifecycle with systemd, and leverage the benefits of this integration for development and production environments. Naturally, there are two sides to every coin, so the limitations and potential challenges of using Quadlet with PostgreSQL are examined, too.
This talk is designed for developers and system administrators who are looking to streamline their PostgreSQL deployments using Podman and Quadlet. It assumes a basic understanding of containerization concepts and familiarity with PostgreSQL.

WarehousePG Open Source (again)
WarehousePG is an Open Source fork of Greenplum Database, which by itself is a fork of PostgreSQL. The project was born after the upstream project was made closed source.
This talk gives a quick overview of the history of both projects, which already spans more than two decades. We then dive into the reasons for creating a fork, and all the stumbling stones we had to pass in order to make this project open source again. We also talk about the challenges of CLAs (Contributor License Agreements) and what implications the PostgreSQL and Apache Licenses have for the project.
