We're sharing best practices and discuss use cases, ideas  and challenges.

Title: Sustainable Manufacturing with Interoperable Digital Twins
Summary:
There is no question that digital twins are an important technology for this century. Industrie 4.0 goes the next step and focusses on interoperable digital twins. Only then, cross-company use cases can be solved. Many use cases require data sharing between a large number of different companies of all sizes and countries.

In this presentation existing standards for interoperable digital twins and semantic descriptions for data sharing are presented as driven by the Industrial Digital Twin Association and the Open Manufacturing Platform. Additionally, examples from CATENA-X will be presented with focus on sustainability and recycling.

Title: Digital twin - a driver for service-oriented business model innovation

Summary: In times of Industry 4.0 the digital twin is seen as an enabler for service innovation. The digital twin should help industrial companies to master challenges such as increasing complexity over the entire product life cycle. The technical advantages of a digital twin begin to arrive in industry, but the question arises whether the digital twin can also be a driver for service-oriented business model innovation. The aim of this paper is therefore to determine, based on a theoretical analysis, whether a business model approach around the digital twin can be implemented in industry and what a possible guideline with associated business model might look like. For the classification of this diffuse question, a systematization of business models takes place, the result of which is used to produce an explorative research design, in the form of expert interviews. The examination of the presented theses shows that
the digital twin is not yet fully used as a new business model driver, but that potential exists. It is also shown that existing business model approaches with a service orientation represent a basis for the digital twin and that existing business model ideas can be adapted to the digital twin. Based on this, a guideline is developed that illustrates an exemplary business model implementation based upon the digital twin. The proposed guideline is then evaluated through a case company case study and stands as the primary innovation of this thesis. In addition, this thesis reveals that the digital twin will receive more attention from the business side in the future, which will result in further research questions such as the implementation of new business models.

Title: Identity & Trust for ESG – W3C Open Standards, Zero Trust Architecture, IDunion, Gaia-X and Ecosystem Leadership

Short description:
When governments are designing new policies for ESG (Environmental Social Governance), they must consider how a "digital trust and verification backbone" could be put in place to support policy enforcement with scalable and fully automated digital tools. Such a digital backbone is needed to enable verifiability at scale for use cases such as circularity, green energy/hydrogen, product carbon footprint, product provenance, trusted release, supplier/customer compliance, anti-bribery, labour rights any many more.

Such a digital backbone needs to be built upon open standards, an ecosystem trust framework, identity and verifiable credentials. This presentation will explain how such a digital backbone can be stablished, introduce some of the ongoing activities in BMWi, IDunion and Gaia-X and shares lots of insights about critical success factors.

Description: Developing open ecosystems with trust between competing entities is a hard problem to crack. However, looking at the problem from a diametrically opposite point of view, it can be framed as:

- If so what can we achieve with such a solution?
- How can we utilize the power of Decentralised AI to realise the full potential of Machine Data in such a framework?

In this talk we will delve into the idea of Decentralised AI and its specific application to predictive maintenance. We will look into how we can utilize data across competing entities without the need for transfer of the data to a centralised location, yet yield similar results.
