Imagine sustainable actions would get rewarded with digital currencies, which could in return be again used for other goods or services. Would this be an additional incentive to you for carrying out more such positive, sustainable actions? Could such a system help us to achieve global sustainability goals? What are the risks of such a system? And how would it impact our current monetary system?

We will address these questions at our next meetup. To start, we will enjoy a 15 minutes tour around the MoneyMuseum by Jürg Conzett from the Money Museum / Sunflower Foundation, gaining some insights into the history and background of the monetary system. Then, Dr. Marcus Dapp from ETH Zurich / FuturICT 2.0 will present us the concept of Finance 4.0 which highlights that the current economic system fails when it comes to valuing social goods and services, such as an unpolluted atmosphere. It therefore suggests to build up a new decentralized economic system that can define positive actions and reward such actions. Rewards take the form of a variety of digital currencies, which can then again be traded and used for other goods or services. It suggests that it can positively influence sustainable development by creating an incentive system that will empower and motivate everyone to change their everyday actions and decisions into a more sustainable way, which in return would benefit not only those carrying out the action, but society as a whole.

The inputs are followed by a critical discussion, moderated by Fabian Steiner from the Sustainable FinTech team and the audience. As always, an apéro will be served, leaving plenty of time for discussions.
