How do "Zukunftsorte" - future places - work in other countries? And what government structures could provide support to make it easier for these complex projects to thrive? Who moves to the countryside in Japan and why?
This time we speak to Ryoko Baba from Ukiha, Japan, who moved to the country as part of a government program that helps young people move in their first three years. By providing jobs and housing, promoting entrepreneurship and providing diverse support to young people, these government programs are attractive - especially for young families who are tired of big cities, work pressure and negative environmental influences.
Ryoko shares her personal journey as someone who used this program as an opportunity to leave Fukuoka. She explains, how Japan tries out new solutions as a country with a huge ageing population and dying villages. She also talks about how she has built an international, creative network of artists, artisans and makers who discover her community of Ukiha as something very special, since many of the artists in residency come back and quite a few find it worthwhile to move to Ukiha permanently.About the muncipality Ukiha
