Zürich Product Owners Meetup: The Right Amount of Specification

Summary
How to increase development velocity by empowering the developers: the role of the PO and the ‘right amount’ of user-story specification

Description
Depending on the size of the development team, there is a risk that the PO becomes the bottleneck. To avoid this situation, more competencies can be given to the development team along the slogan: “The PO should fall in love with problem, the development team should fall in love with the solution”. So the questions arise:

• How can this be achieved and what are the right steps to - at the same time - balance the MVP, i.e., how to make sure developers don’t fall too much in love with the solution?
• What can be done on a company-level (e.g., trust, training, vision, reaction to mistakes, etc.) to improve the empowerment of the development team to come up proactively with solutions and eventually increase velocity?”
