Wilkommen beim Trust in Tech Meetup Hamburg!

Vortrag: “Machine Learning for Anomaly Detection” von Gavin Ewan

There can be no doubt that there has been an explosion in demand for machine learning over the past few years. From a global market size of 1.06 billion US dollars to a projected market size of 8.81 billion US dollars by 2022, we are starting to see machine learning being used in almost every area of business it can be, and even a few it shouldn’t!
Machine learning is, however, ready made for cyber-security. The very definition of a cyber-attack is something happening that shouldn’t be, i.e. something anomalous! While for many years we have relied on the human eye to decide if something has gone wrong, whether it be through logs or just a gut feeling. But “to err is human”, we make mistakes, we miss things. Properly configured machines don’t.
This talk will take us through the evolution of machine learning for detecting anomalies, particularly those within the field of cyber security. We will go from the early days of anomaly detection which were trivially easy to trick, right through to the powerful learning algorithms of today.

Speaker Bio:

Gavin Ewan is a data scientist with Vindler GmbH and the COO of its daughter company VITA. Gavin has spoken around the world on the topic of cyber-security, with a particular focus on the prevention of social engineering attacks through scientific method, and tackling the problem of false positives within intrusion detection systems.
