Session 1: Building an LLM-Powered Anti-Tracking System in the Browser: A Candid Case Study
This talk presents a candid case study of building and deploying an LLM-powered anti-tracking system as a browser extension. It walks through the system end to end—from model adaptation and semantic analysis to running real-time inference under strict browser performance constraints—and highlights how the design changed once it had to work in practice.
The session covers how the architecture, data pipeline, and modeling choices evolved to analyze network requests and page content, aiming to reduce false positives while still detecting increasingly sophisticated tracking behavior. It also explores the practical challenges of in-browser LLM inference, including latency, resource limits, and debugging model behavior outside a controlled research environment.
Along the way, the speaker shares how a vibe-coding approach shaped development, using LLMs as collaborators for rapid prototyping and early discovery of design constraints. The talk focuses on concrete, experience-driven lessons—what worked, what broke, and what would be done differently—along with code snippets and a follow-up tutorial for deeper exploration.
