It's time to meetup again 🎉! Join our AWS User Group Stuttgart meetup @ Red Hat Stuttgart - Vaihingen!

1st Talk: Value Add of Application Platforms: ROSA on AWS
Join us for a technically-focused meetup where we’ll dive deep into ROSA (Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS) and its pivotal role as a powerful, managed application platform for Hybrid Cloud on AWS. This session is designed for the community—exploring the technical architecture, open source compatibility, and real-world advantages of building on a fully managed OpenShift service in the AWS cloud.
We'll focus on the engineering decisions, trade-offs, and community-driven tools that make ROSA on AWS a compelling choice for real-world modern workloads, complete with demos and an open source focus. 🚀
Some brief agenda items:

  • Main Architecture & Open Source Value: Why do we have application platforms in coexistence with K8S engines on public cloud? This includes comparative analysis of technical trade-offs between a fully managed platform like ROSA and services like EKS and ECS in times of AI —highlighting the value for open source projects and communities behind it.
  • AppDev: AI/ML and the Hybrid Cloud Engineering Challenge: Explore advanced integrations for data-intensive and open source AI/ML workflows for so-called intelligent applications (including LLMs), demonstrating how ROSA provides a consistent platform for Hybrid Cloud strategies.
  • Infrastructure: Virt and Containers: Technical Coexistence: A technical explanation of how OpenShift Virtualization (using KubeVirt) allows running VMs alongside containers on the same kernel including intelligent apps (including demo).
  • Best practices: The Hybrid Cloud Sweet Spot & Community Best Practices: In conclusion, we'll identify the technical use cases where ROSA truly shines. We'll conclude with a high-impact summary of essential operational and appDev practices from the OpenShift and AWS communities.

Come prepared for code, demos, and an honest technical discussion about the future of cloud-native technologies!
About the speaker:
Yury Titov: I am a passionate open sourcer, working at RH since 2015. Started as a technical specialist, moved across organizations as Sr. Architect up to Sr. Black Belt for cloud services for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), working by customers in technical projects with OpenShift, hyperscalers, Cloud Platforms, GitOps, AppDev and automation including various practically implemented lifecycles for solution adoption in hybrid cloud environments. Currently, my focus is even more shifting towards hybrid cloud and AI-enabled intelligent applications for sophisticated approaches turning over time into best practices across communities.

2nd Talk: How to Make Sense of AWS Container Services
Description
This technical session provides Solutions Architects and developers with a comprehensive framework for navigating AWS's container service offerings. Containers have become a cornerstone of modern application development and deployment, but choosing the right AWS container service requires careful consideration of your specific use case, operational requirements, and organizational constraints.
Key Focus Areas:

  • Container Service Landscape: A detailed examination of AWS container services including Amazon ECS, EKS, App Runner, Fargate, and ECR - understanding their strengths, limitations, and ideal use cases
  • Decision Framework: A practical decision tree for selecting the optimal container service based on factors such as operational complexity, cost considerations, scalability requirements, and team expertise
  • Perspective-Based Analysis: Tailored guidance for different scenarios including:
    - Greenfield application development
    - Legacy application migration to containers
    - Hybrid and multi-cloud container strategies
    - Enterprise-scale container orchestration
  • Real-World Application: Case studies demonstrating successful implementation patterns across various industries and workload types

Target Audience: Solutions Architects, DevOps engineers, and technical decision-makers who need to make informed choices about container services in their AWS environment.
Takeaways: Attendees will leave with a structured decision framework, architectural patterns, and practical guidance to confidently select and implement the right AWS container services for their specific requirements.
About the speaker:
Jan Klotter: My name is Jan, I’m a Solutions Architect working for AWS since 3 years and I’m supporting my global automotive customer on their cloud transformation journey. My main focus are large scale application migrations and modernizations to achieve the desired business outcomes through AWS technology. I’m also being part of the AWS container community since 2 years to share my knowledge about container services to multiple customers. In my free time, I like to travel, hike and having AWSome food.
