Women's day and Coder Bee Anniversary Special 🎉

Details

Hello Coders,

CODER BEE IS TURNING ONE!

Time flies and I am surprised it's been a year since Coder Bee was officially founded. I invite you all to join me to celebrate our first year anniversary. 🎉

Corona didn't make it an easier to have more events last year.
This year hopefully we can do more together.

We will be having some kick-ass women from the community present talks this time.

Agenda:

  1. A Path to Tech: My Two Cents on Career Change and Volunteering

In this talk, I share how I went from Civil engineering in Brazil to Developer Advocacy (from Ireland) in the USA, #WFH for now. I will share how important community work was on the transition and what worked for me on leveraging skillsets to get to that so wished fist job in a different field. Finally, I will take a few minutes to explain what a developer advocate is and what we usually do.

Speaker Bio: Lais Carvalho is a Developer Advocate for OpenTeams, a Python geek and an open-source enthusiast. Member of Python Ireland, and Mid Meet Py's other half, Lais has worked with communities in R and Python, and now is organising another edition of Mentored Sprints, an initiative to making OSS more accessible for beginners.

  1. Code Like A Child

Playful office spaces with video games and ping pong tables are a trend in startups and big tech companies alike. Sarah believes there are more situations than just recreation where we can benefit from sending our adult self on a break. Thinking more like children, we might come up with new ways to look at problems and find unique solutions to overcome technical challenges.

Speaker Bio: Sarah Wachs is a Software Engineer with a focus on Javascript and frontend development. Passionate about sharing knowledge, she is active in the Berlin Tech communities in Berlin, e.g. organising events and workshops with Women Who Code. In her free time she likes to learn other technologies and languages like Go and Rust.

QnA and Fishbowl Discussion:
#ChooseToChallenge

  1. What can we do to improve the Coder Bee community?

  2. What can we do to improve diversity?

  3. How can we all Choose To Challenge the status quo?

Looking forward to welcoming you all.
