In the pursuit of agility, not "agile": how to build the right features

Most everyone understands the vocabulary of agile and grasps how to apply some of agile’s ceremonies, such as running a weekly sprint, or holding a daily stand-up to align at the start of each day.

Yet most teams fundamentally misunderstand what agile really is - and how it should be applied.

Rather than product teams, we see delivery teams: Efficient feature factories that develop whatever pre-defined list of features they have been told to develop by a leadership team unaccountable to their decisions.

In order to build a true product team, one focused on delivering maximum value to the user - and, ultimately, to our business in the form of revenue - we need to re-examine what the point of agile was in the first place:

Not the pursuit of more, but, rather, the pursuit of better.

In this talk, Henry Latham will cover the common mistakes teams make when applying Agile, before talking you through the process he had developed for delivering value to the customer - a process that he had used successfully within his own business, as well as with his clients.

Henry Latham spent 7 years working across different design & product leadership roles studying the factors involved in startup success & failure.

He now applies that knowledge in his own company, Scribe, a journaling application his team has bootstrapped to profitability within 12 months, as well as with clients, helping them define a product vision, strategy & process of execution to help them achieve success & longevity.

He believes that work that matters comes from a calm, rational, honest & adaptive team and that practices such as meditation or radical honesty within our team are more important than years of experience on your CV.
