Mandu of Identity – A Communal Lunar New Year Night

Details

Join us for this playful trans-disciplinary dinner experience exploring and celebrating the diversity of identities and traditions. Through the symbolic act of making Mandu (Korean dumplings), we’ll explore how our unique experiences and roles come together to shape who we are.

Each of us carries multiple identities—whether as immigrants, or long-time locals; whether as queer individuals, women, professionals, friends, or children — constantly blending and navigating these roles. This evening invites you to reflect on this complexity, where Mandu (만두), a traditional Korean dumpling filled with a variety of ingredients, serves as a powerful metaphor for our whole and multifaceted selves.

Let’s come together to celebrate the Lunar New Year through food, creativity, and play!

What’s on the table for the night?

  • Playful making of vegan Mandu & exchange, with creating a space to reflect on how blending our identities shapes our relationships with one another.
  • Special dance performance by Geosmin Yang: a captivating performance interpreting the blending of roles and identities through movement, connecting food, culture, and self-expression.
  • Shared dinner & conversation: enjoy a communal dinner filled with the Mandu we create, alongside snacks and a guided conversation designed to spark connection and meaningful dialogue.

Your ticket includes the Mandu making and shared dinner, snacks, and a welcome specialty tea, along with access to the full program.
