Let's go to the northern outskirts of Berlin - where Berlin does not look like Berlin any more.

We'll meet on Wednesday at 19:00 at the tram stop Rosenthal Nord. That is the last stop of the M1 tram line. (Note that the M1 tram line has two branches: Only trams with "Rosenthal Nord" in the headsign will get you to the meeting point).

From there ...

*... we'll walk through the village-like center of Rosenthal

  • walk some sections of the "Berliner Mauerweg"
*visit the protected landscape "Niedermoorwiesen" with many meadows and old fruit trees
  • visit the Köppchensee, an old peat cutting, now an old idyllic lake
*visit the protected landscape "Tegeler Fließ", which forms big, partially flooded moorlands
  • visit the old village of Lübars with many paddocks, sheep flocks and probably the oldest phone booth in Berlin.

The hike will be about 10 to 15 km long. The area has many things to see and discover, so its also possible to slightly deviate from the route and browse a bit. Still, we should be not linger too much in order to be back at roughly 9:45 PM in Alt-Lübars.

From Alt-Lübars, we can use the BVG bus 222 to return to the denser Berlin. If you want to avoid public transport and arrive by bike, you can also walk back to the starting point; it is a walk of about 30 minutes.

Note:

*Please be on time at the meeting point. The tram M1 arrives every 15 minutes there. It is also possible to reach the place by the M21 bus. But note that we'll meet at the tram stop which is not directly at the bus stop.

  • There probably won't be too many Späties along the route, so better bring some water and food with you.
*As it is a hike, wearing shoes where it is not a catastrophe if they get a bit dirty is a plus
  • You are all responsible for yourself.
*While it is often possible to browse the landscape, please be responsible in the protected areas and do not disturb animals or plants.
