Hey everyone,

as you may have noticed, the meetup series took a short break in July. Now we’re back, and I am excited to announce that John-Henry Forster, VP Product at UserInterviews.com, will share his team’s story of adopting and adapting Shape Up.

JH's team started to use Shape Up when the book was released in summer last year. Before that, the team had grown from just a handful of people working together informally to eight developers. They reached for Kanban and Scrum but did not find what they were looking for.

What's unique about the team at UserInterviews.com is the fact that they are now running a version of Shape Up with three squads that are decoupled. This means that the squads are working on independent cycles with appetites ranging from two to six weeks, leading to a rolling system of shaping, betting, and building.

Tune in on August 26th, 6 pm (UTC) to hear John-Henry explain their journey and why they made the adaptations to Shape Up the way they did.

For this event, I want to invite you all to try something new with me. Let’s meet in Gather (gather.town) for some pre-event get-together (details below) and hang out after John’s talk. I'm hoping to enable a bit more interaction within the community through this, but it'll be an experiment, so let's just see how it goes.

## Here’s a summary of what you need to know:

  • John-Henry Forster, VP Product @ UserInterviews.com will share how his team tweaked Shape Up to fit their needs.
  • We’ll start things off on Wed, Aug 26th, at 6 pm (UTC) with some pre-event networking here: https://gather.town/3KPWqlvw3akGWJI7/shapeup (pw: supr-meetup). The setting will be a bar, so bring a drink if you like. ;)
  • At ≈6:15, we'll move over to Zoom for John's talk (link visible to RSVPs).
  • Afterward, let's again mingle in Gather (open end).
  • You can submit questions prior to and during his talk via Sli.do, using the code #shapeup (Q&A will be open from Aug 20 onwards)

I'm really excited about this meetup and hoping to see a lot of you there!

David
