₿🛠️ Satoshi's 21 #001: Wallet Scrutiny

Details

In the first edition of our new seminar series we will have a scrutinizing look at the Wallet Scrutiny project, which aims to raise the bar and improve developer best practices in the Bitcoin wallet ecosystem.

From the project's web page:
> What protects your Bitcoins from Hackers?
> Do you own your Bitcoins or do you trust that your app allows you to use “your” coins while they are actually controlled by “them”? Do you have a backup? Do “they” have a copy they didn’t tell you about? Did anybody check the wallet for deliberate backdoors or vulnerabilities? Could anybody check the wallet for those?
> We try to answer these questions for Bitcoin wallets on Android.

We will learn about and discuss the methodologies used to evaluate Android wallet apps with the project's initiator, and we'll get feedback from 2-3 wallet developers and contributors.

Notable participants today include:

This is our new in-depth, no-nonsense seminar series Satoshi's 21, which will take place every 21st of a month in various different locations (hackspace, co-working space, conference room, or similar), or online if circumstances so require.

We'll have one or more selected topics concerning Bitcoin's technology, security, ongoing development, economics, monetary theory, or its societal and political impact. Some preparation work might be required from participants in order to make the most out of the seminar.

Satoshi's 21 stands for:

  • Every 21st of a month so that weekdays rotate
  • 21 participants is the targeted and ideal working group size, but we could be more, we could be fewer
  • And of course: honoring Bitcoin's monetary supply of 21 hundred trillion sats!
