In his talk, Dr. Compo will present how agile thinking is crucial to strategy design. He will first show a rigorous definition of strategy derived from a model of innovation, clarifying the difference between a strategy and a strategic plan. After discussing several implications of this definition—including definitions of tactics, execution, and strategy testing—he presents an agile-adaptive technique for strategy framework design. This technique centers around a strategy alternative matrix (SAM). A ‘minimum viable” SAM is drafted, then evolved as a whole until a compelling alternative emerges. This agile-adaptive approach is contrasted with traditional stepwise approaches to strategy design.
