📚 Book
In the next meeting of Cologne book club, we will be discussing Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
Cat’s Cradle is a satirical science fiction novel that explores humanity’s relationship with science, religion, and the search for meaning. Told with Vonnegut’s signature wit and dark humour, the novel follows a loosely connected chain of events that gradually reveal how seemingly small ideas and inventions can have world-altering consequences.
Central to the novel are themes of technological responsibility, the absurdity of human belief systems, and the tension between knowledge and wisdom. Vonnegut invents concepts such as a fictional religion and a dangerous scientific discovery to examine how people construct meaning in a chaotic and often irrational world. His minimalist style and ironic tone make the novel both accessible and deeply unsettling.
Cat’s Cradle is a sharp, thought-provoking, and often hilarious read that challenges readers to reflect on truth, faith, and the ethical limits of scientific progress. Vonnegut’s blend of humour and pessimism makes this novel a classic of modern literature and a rich starting point for discussion.
