Since the release of the iPhone in 2007, 7.178 billion (http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/FINAL-10YearsSmartphones-Report-Design-230217-Digital.pdf) smartphones have been manufactured. Under the current model, valuable finite materials are extracted and chemically processed using large amounts of energy to make devices designed to become obsolete in a few short years. What are the environmental and social implications of the so called smartphone revolution and is there the possibility of a more sustainable system?

Join ThoughtWorks (https://www.thoughtworks.com/) and zerowasteXchange (https://zerowastexchange.org/) on Tuesday October 24th for a screening of “Death by Design,” the 2016 feature length documentary that explores the underbelly of our global digital addiction. The film will be followed by a panel discussion on the limits of the current system and an exploration of sustainable devices designed with people and the planet in mind.
