Hike to Rotwandhaus via Pfanngraben (not for Beginners)

Hello Everyone!

Come on and join us for a day trip to the beautiful Bavarian Alpine Foreland, not even an hour from Munich by train!

We’ll meet in the charming town of Schliersee and take a bus towards Spitzingsee, a picturesque lake nestled between snow-covered mountains. From there, we’ll head to the mountain hut "Rotwandhaus," where we can enjoy traditional Bavarian food, drinks, and an amazing view on the alps. The hike is of medium difficulty and takes around 4h for the ascent, following tranquil gravel and woodland paths. The hike up the Rotwand is one of the best-known tours in the region. Less well-known, however, is the ascent via the Pfanngraben in the Valepp. We hike through a hilly landscape, past several waterfalls, to reach the Rotwandhaus. From the Rotwandhaus, it's only 20 minutes to reach the Rotwand mountain peak (optional). After descending via another shorter route back to Spitzingsee we take the bus & train back.

Meeting Point 📍:
We’ll meet in front of Schliersee station at 09:25 AM. Look for me in a yellow jacket to easily spot me. The train leaves at Munich main station at 08:29 AM in front of platform 34. You need to hop on the very first train part that heads to Bayrischzell (NOT Lenggries and NOT Tegernsee). Get off the train at Fischhausen-Neuhaus (ETA 09:25 AM). The bus to Spitzingsee leaves at Schliersee station at 09:30 AM (it's a connection). The transit time is quite short, so please don't use the toilets at the station. Use the toilets on the train instead.

What to Bring:

• Warm + waterproof hiking shoes with ankle support / high shaft (suitable for hiking snow-covered forest paths)
• Dressing in layers is advised (be prepared for being outside most of the time --> a warm jacket, scarf, gloves, hat, etc.)
• Hiking poles (Highly recommended. The ascent to the Rotwandhaus from Spitzingsee is partially icy.)
• Crampons (recommended)
• Water

Please note:
This is a difficult hike. Please only join when you have experience in hiking and adequate clothing. Especially hiking shoes with a high shaft are important.
