Developer Meetup Essen Vol. 2 - Spring Boot

Details
For the second Developer Meetup Essen we want to focus the topic backend development with Spring Boot. The following two talks are planned:
📜 Talks:
1. Pragmatic Spring
Learn how to deliver practical, efficient, and effective solutions using Spring Boot. In this talk, we'll explore the core principles of pragmatic programming and demonstrate how they can be applied to Spring Boot development. You'll leave with practical tips and real-world examples for building solutions that are both effective and efficient.
🎤 Speaker: Marcus Held
With more than 15 years of experience in software development and the last 12 focused on the JVM with Spring, Marcus helped companies to identify the critical points in their project and correct them in a sustainable way. Prior to his current freelance work Marcus managed the backend department at grandcentrix with more than 30 employees. There he was involved in developments like Modbus Cloud Connect or in projects of customers like Brose, Bucher, Gardena, Hörmann, Miele or Migros. In addition, he was responsible for the development of several online games like Rise of Cultures, Sunrise Village, Goodgame Empire or Legends of Honor with up to 220 million registered users.
2. GraphQL with Spring Boot: Hype or game changer?
Since GraphQL's introduction by Facebook in 2012, it became a popular alternative to standards like REST and a lot of companies have already published their APIs with GraphQL. But does it really live up with the hype? In this talk, we will get to know how to implement GraphQL APIs with Spring Boot in a live demo comparing it with a common REST API. Furthermore we will share our experience with using GraphQL in practice covering the most important benefits and challenges we encountered working with GraphQL. Thus, the goal of the talk is give you a good basis for decision for choosing the most suitable API technology for your next Spring Boot project.
🎤 Speaker: Rene Barkschat
René is a senior software developer working for the meetup host it-objects. After working with JavaEE applications, he switched soon to Spring Boot and is very happy with the decision.
Over the last years he became an enthusiast for Kotlin and likes to use it also in combination with Spring Boot.
